DECOLORIZATION OF MIXED REACTIVE DYES BY ENTEROCOCCUS CASSELIFLAVUS CMGS-1 STRAIN By Madhuri R. Basutkar, Channappa T. Shivannavar, Subhaschandra M.  Gaddad

Abstract

Microbes are called natural cleaner of nature. Isolate Enterococcus casseliflavus CMGS-1 strain isolated from soil of textile dyes treatment unit Solapur, Maharashtra, showed excellent results in the decolorisation of different textile dyes in the mixed solution. For the decolorisation study we selected five different kinds of Reactive dyes which are widely used in textile industries and mixed in the equal concentration in such way that final concentration of dyes is not more than 100 mg/L in mineral salt medium. Isolate CMGS-1 shown decolorisation up to 72.30% within five days of incubation without using any external nutritional (carbon and nitrogen) sources. The decolorisation   efficiency of the organism was increased from 72.30% to 85% under optimized parameter (pH-9 and temperature 400 C) with 0.1% additional yeast extract under static condition, within 24 hours of incubation. The complete decolorized culture filtrate was used for the extraction of the metabolites / the intermediates of dyes with solvents and subjected for FT-IR analysis. The absence of intermediates in the filtrate suggested the decolorisation of dyes due to degradation. 16s rRNA sequences of the isolate was deposited in NCBI (GenBank) with an accession number – KT602856, and also isolate deposited in (IMTECH) Chandigarh with MTCC number-12538.
