SOCIO – ECONOMIC CONDITIONS OF PACHAMALAI TRIBES By Dr. R. Shankar[1] and S. Manimaran[2]

 

Abstract

                The purpose of this paper is to examine the concept of socio-economic conditions of Pachamalai tribes. The tribal population is identified as the aboriginal inhabitants of our country. For centuries, they have been living a simple life based on the natural environment and have developed cultural patterns congenial to their physical and social environment. The economic, health, nutrition and medico-genetic problems of diverse tribal groups have been found to be unique and present a formidable challenge for which appropriate solutions have to be found out by planning and evolving relevant research studies. The purpose of this quantitative, descriptive study was to explore socio-economic conditions of the tribes. Self prepared questionnaire was used to assess the socio-economic conditions of the tribal people. The major objectives of this study are to know the economic condition of the tribes and to understand the health status of the Pachamalai tribes.
