A STUDY OF THE MICROSCOPIC WORLD OF ENERGY EXCHANGE-QUANTUM MECHANICAL TREATMENT OF RADIANT ENERGY By Dr. Motiur Rahman Ansari

Abstract:

This paper shows the interaction problem between radiation and single two levels system and confirms the formalism of a spin -½ particle 10, 11. In the semi-classical treatment the formalism can be easily extended15 to treat the problem when a number of such two level non-interacting systems coupled by a common radiation field take part in the interaction. The relevant operators for the system, viz. the Hamiltonian, the density operator, the T-operator of interaction etc. are expressed in terms of angular momentum operators such as R1, R2 and R3. The method has further been used to treat the problem of correlated emission and photon echoes. The author shows how the T-operator technique is not only an elegant method to solve the dynamical problems but it provides at the same time a possible geometrical picture of the underlying process. The significance of the T-operator lies in evaluating the integral (t) =   which is facilitated only when the Hamiltonian H can be expressed in a simple linear form and is a constant of time in some or the other frame of reference. For two level systems, the same has been shown possible in the space of spinners spanned by the basic spin matrices  and  (for J = ½), which are 2X2 matrices
